One of my favourite projects was creating an AR application that brought the ✨magic✨ of You've Got Mail—my absolute favourite movie—to life! The app uses WebAR🌐 , so there’s no need for users to download anything. They simply scan a barcode, and when they point their device's camera at the You've Got Mail poster, it triggers an AR model of the Empire State Building to appear in their surroundings. It’s like stepping into the dreamy, romantic world of the 90s, blending technology with nostalgia!
On the technical side, I built the 3D model of the Empire State Building in Blender, carefully texturing it to capture that iconic New York charm. I used WebXR frameworks to deliver the AR experience through browsers, ensuring it’s accessible and lightweight. To optimize performance, especially for mobile devices, I baked the lighting into textures and used low-poly modeling techniques while keeping the visual fidelity high.
What makes this project special to me is how it ties in storytelling with technology. You've Got Mail is all about connections and evolving mediums of communication, and I felt like this AR app was a modern homage to that theme. Plus, it was a great way to showcase skills in 3D modeling, AR development, and user-friendly design. The feedback from testers was amazing—they loved the blend of 90s nostalgia with cutting-edge tech.
It’s projects like this that make me excited about the potential of AR to create meaningful, memorable experiences!
