The EYE-RecAIcle project was the term project for Northeastern University's CS5500 Software Engineering Graduate class. It was developed as a team of 5 people. This is my original idea that stemmed from when a friend was confused about which bin they should dispose of their various types of waste.
Capture the Waste Item:
A camera connected to Nvidia’s Jetson Nano captures an image of the waste item 📸.
Object Detection:
Using deep learning classification models developed in Jupyter iPython notebooks, the system identifies the object 🧠.
Send Detection Signal:
A signal with the detected object information is sent to the ThingSpeak Cloud ☁️.
Notify the User:
The cloud relays the signal to:
The Twitter API, sending a notification to the user 📱🐦.
A connected Arduino Board, which lights up or guides the user to the correct bin 🚮✨.
This project seamlessly combines AI, IoT, and cloud computing to solve a real-world problem. It was an exciting opportunity to explore computer vision and integration technologies while creating a solution with the potential to drive positive environmental change! 🌱🌎
